I recently visited with a lovely couple in their 80’s—they are healthy, vibrant, and eat well. While there, they talked to me about the “watchman” device.
Now, I have to admit, I had not heard the term before. So they proceeded to tell me how this device, inserted in a small chamber of the heart called the appendage, reduces the risk of a stroke. I left my meeting fascinated and had to research the device on my own. I learned that for patients with atrial fibrillation who can’t tolerate blood thinners or prefer not to be on medication, this is a good option.
