April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month. This type of cancer has a high mortality rate, but it’s not because it’s hard to treat or detect it, this is because people are unaware of its existence. According to the Oral Cancer Foundation there is no national screening policy, so a large percentage of people are diagnosed when this cancer is at an advanced level. For this reason it is very important that it’s detected in the early stages.
