February is the month that we focus on the heart. We celebrate National Heart Health Month as well as Valentine’s. When thinking about this month’s newsletter, I couldn’t forget about the heartfelt story I heard a week ago. I belong to a local networking organization called Professional Women’s Roundtable where I have met some remarkable women, including our speaker last week, Susan Lang.

Susan was born in Hungary and was invited as a keynote speaker to relate her journey from Hungary to the United States (which took over 15 years) during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956.

Her story is one of both courage and desperation, bravery and integrity and in my opinion one of great HEART! We were all at the edge of our seats, holding tears back as she shared her struggles, her brave journey from Hungary to Canada and her focus to eventually arrive in the United States as she had promised her parents when she and her brother fled Hungary.

She was there to inspire us to pursue our goals, to not let anyone dictate how far you can go in life and how relentlessly pursuing growth pays off.

That if an immigrant from Hungary, without a college education rose to become a regional vice president to a large bank in San Diego, anyone has the capacity to do the same.

I’ve been thinking a lot about Susan and her last words: “Never Give Up, Never Give In. Follow your Dreams!” I love that mentality that no matter what your journey has been, you can always continue to pursue your dreams or create new ones!

That no matter if you are still working or in retirement you

can pass on wisdom, experience, mentorship and/or simply a friendship to others. That the person you extend a helping hand to might be at their wits ends and in desperate need of that kind word, that friendship, that wisdom.

So this month, I would like to encourage you to find someone to mentor, give a compliment to a complete stranger, pursue this month with a smile on your heart!

And most importantly, if you have a story you’d like to share with us, please write to us at help@westcompassinsurance.com

Happy Valentin
