We all know about more well-known signs of aging such as graying hair, bone density loss, and increased memory challenges. However, as of yet there has been no non-invasive way to study the biological composition of brain matter as we age.
Neurological specialists are studying the development of neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. A new MRI approach can help researchers quantify and characterize changes in the biological composition of brain tissue. Using these maps, it is possible to accurately compare different scans from the same subject or between healthy brains and those showing signs of disease. The hope is that this new method will help provide a noninvasive way to predict, measure, and study these neurological diseases.
