For the first time in many years Medicare will drop Part B premiums by $5.25 effective 2023.

According to Forbes this is the first time this has happened in a decade. The reason for the drop is that in 2022 the FDA (Food and Drugs Administration) approved an expensive treatment for Alzheimer, and in response,

the  Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)  increased the part B premium almost 14.5% to cover the cost of the  treatment. But later, the lab that produced the medication for this Alzheimer treatment (Biogen) reduced the cost of the drug to almost half of its original cost.

It was then established that the coverage of these treatments would be for participants in  approved clinical trials, which reduced the number of patients that could have access to these treatments. So the money they didn’t spend was added to the 2023 premium program which allowed them to reduce the Part B premium $5.25 in monthly payments.
