My Dad is my Inspiration
In June we also celebrate Father’s Day! This is a day in which we recognize fathers, grandfathers, godfathers, stepfathers and father-figures for their love and sacrifices.
Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington has been given credit for starting Father’s Day in 1910. Her father, a Civil War veteran, raised her and her five siblings after their mother died in childbirth. This story reminds me of my own father who at the age of 21 became a father and stepfather to 7 children. While the marriage didn’t last long, I grew up with my dad and my grandparents until he remarried a couple of years later. I grew up incredibly close to my dad and my grandparents and have the fondest memories of those wonderful years with them.
I am always inspired by my father’s work resilience, his constant appetite for learning and his entrepreneurial spirit. I guess I know where I got mine 🙂
