Summer is my favorite season

My favorite season of the year is summer for 2 main reasons: 

1. I was born in Bogota, Colombia where the weather is usually cold, you always carry a jacket and it can rain at any moment. 
2. Summer days are longer, the beach is my happy place, I get to spend more time with my girls and we always look forward to our family vacation. 

This year, we had a trip scheduled in the Spring to celebrate my husband’s birthday and we had to postponed it due to a sports injury in the family. So the anticipation had been building in our home since February and when the time arrived we soaked in all we could from this amazing trip to Maui. As a general rule, I don’t like to repeat a vacation destination no matter how breathtaking it is. I love traveling and soaking up new experiences, new cultures, new food and learning about the places we visit. 

We went on the famous road to Hana and utilize an app (Shaka) that provided a guide tour at every stop with very interesting historical facts. We visited the famous Mama’s Fish House and discover that in a small island, the overpass takes twice as long to cross on a Friday night. We snorkled, went canoeing, walked the town and enjoyed the warm ocean. 

These vacation days are recharge days for us as a family. This is when we disconnect from the world, friends, phones and other distractions, to reconnect with each other before school starts, the craziness of the annual election consumes our days and in a blink of an eye the holidays are here.  What is your favorite vacation spot to visit?
